
Interlaken
Interlaken is the secret capital of Switzerland’s beautiful Bernese Oberland is located between the lakes of Thun and Brienz, at the foot of the towering trio of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. Interlaken offers winter sport’s fans access to some of the most spectacular skiing in the Alps with their base in a service packed small city in a spectacular lakeside setting.
Tourist Museum (Touristik-Museum der Jungfrau-Region) – the first regional tourist museum in the country and exhibits shows the growth of tourism in the region for the past two centuries.
Unterseen – after crossing over the Aare River to Unterseen, which was built in 1280 by Berthold von Eschenbach. In Unterseen there is a parish church with late gothic tower built in the 1471 that is one of the most photographed sights in the Bernese Oberland. The Monch appears on the left of the tower, the Jungfrau is on the right.
Hoheweg – in the center of the town between the two train stations, which earlier belonged to Augustinian monks and acquired in the mid 19 th century by the hotelkeepers of Interlaken and converted it into a park. The park provides famous view of the Jungfrau Mountain and another sight is the flower clock at the Kursall (casino).
Sightseeing – for sightseeing in Interlaken, Matten and Unterseen by Fiarce, line up at the Interlaken West train station for half an hour trip.
Jungfrau Massif – huge avalanches wiped out everything and backers gave up plans for a surface railway up the Jungfrau but the road was built in tunnels. The road is not built up to the summit instead settling on a saddle like formation between Jungfrau and the Monch. There tourist can frolic unsupervised and sheltered from the worst of the mountain winds with room for restaurants.
Berner Oberland – splendid overview in the region and make the ambitious trip to this 6,445 foot peak for picnic or a visit to the Alpine Botanical Garden, where more than 520 varieties of flowers grow. A cogwheel train dating back from the 1893 takes you on the round trip journey.
