Medicinal Waters and their Effects : the medicinal water have a variety of effect on the body, Hippocrates, the father of medicine was the first to proclaim: nature is the physician of our diseases. Onod : water front on the banks of the river Sajo. At the turn of the 14/15 th century a local landlord and king Sigismund favorite man fortified the village church on the banks of the river Sajo by adding a large tower to it and enclosed the church in a wall. In the 16 th century it became a frontier defense fortress surrounded by a Palisade.
Kisnana : the castle at the foot of the Matra hills. In the 13 th century the Kompolti family built a manor and office next to the church in the center of the village. In the 15 th century they extended the residence and built a strong gatehouse and enclosed the whole thing in a stonewall. Before archaeological survey began in 1962 local people took away the stones for their own building purpose.
Sirok : the rock castle on the rim of the Matra. The rock fortress was built in the second half of the 13 th century and in the 14 th to the 15 th century it was a royal castle and later became the property of notable aristocratic family.
Eger : eternal example of Hungarian heroism. Founded by the king Szent Istvan (St. Stephen) was a religious and administrative center of the bishopric of Eger on the Varhegy. In 1241 the center collapsed during the invasion of the Mongol and later a new strong castle was built. The minister was extended during the Middle Ages and the two storeys, gothic, monumental bishop’s palace was erected nearby.
Gyor : the town of rivers as the Romans called it, which is nearly 1000 years old bishopric where Napoleon won a battle in the 1809. The beautiful downtown with baroque building (the oldest are Lakotorny built in 13 th century) and famous for its schools and industry. The most ancient part of the town is the junction of the three rivers the Danube, Raba and Rabca.
Sopron : one of the richest town in monuments located near the Austrian border and surrounded by vineyards and the pine covered lover hills, it was awarded the Europe’s Nostra prize in 1975. The symbol of the town offers a wonderful panoramic view and houses exhibitions about the history of the town. The Benedictine Church also known as ‘Goat Church’ with its gothic vault and baroque interior.
Szekesfehervar : established in 972, including the colour of princes (white) in its name was the first Hungarian capital and country’s main church for 5 centuries. The scared crown and the state archive were kept here also 37 kings and 39 queens were crowned at this place.
