Halifax

Halifax is a industrial town, Calderdale metropolitan district, central England on the hebble from a small tributary of the calder river. The main production is wollen items, carpets and machine tools. The other industries are cotton, silk, synthetic and metals (iron and steel). It had carried woolen trade in the middle ages.

The town has mostly old and historical places like the 18 th century Bankfield Museum, 15 th century St.John the Baptist, parish church. Also the renaissance town hall as designed by Sir Charles Barry and the 15 th century Heath Grammer School. In the 18 th century Halifax was an important centre of woolen trade. During the 17 th century the Piece Hall was built to house 315 merchants but now it is the only surviving manufacturing hall in the whole Britain. In the early 18 th century Halifax manufacturing wollen was done in domestic system but in the 1820 power loom weaving was introduced. At present steam power has taken on as it is more efficient and the halifax proves more advantageous than any other place.
