Guam is the largest island in Micronesia and Hagatna the capital has many historic buildings dating from this era. Many people consider Guam one of the most interesting places in Micronesia. It is the largest and most southerly island of the Marians archipelago, the island narrows in the middle with the southern half widening into a land of mountains and valleys cut by streams and waterfalls.
There are some interesting historical landmarks to explore in the city of Guam, the most graceful remains of Spanish buildings, the Plaza De Espana and stone bridges may be seen in Agana. Some of the famous places are the Tumon Bay, it is a one road deep resort strip fuelled by hotels, clubs and restaurants; Pago Bay Vista Point is a unmarked view point just past the town of Yona on Guam’s central eastern coast, once there was a Spanish village at the mouth of the river but its inhabitants were wiped out in a small pox epidemic in 1856; Two lovers point is a beautifully landscaped at the top of a 125m limestone cliff, a giant gilded statue of the entwined lovers is set atop a pedestal.
Shopping centers are in plenty offering an array of retail items, the main malls include the Hagarna and Gibson’s shopping Centers. Dining in the city is fabulous, Guamanian cooking is very similar to Spanish cuisine, the wide selection of restaurants features American, Chinese, European, Filipino, Indonesian, japanese, Korean and Mexican food. There are variety range of nightclubs featuring music and dancing. Dance shows and dinner cruises are also available.
