Nightlife of Glasgow

Glasgow is a very nice place for nightouts.A decade ago Glasgow offered you the choice of posh boozer, or squalid boozer. These days, however, there are as many different styles of bar as there are drinkers. Old-style pubs are easily found, but if sleek, slick and chic is more your style, Glasgow has dozens of modern bars to choose from too.But for all this "high art," Glasgow has the reputation as an unsurpassed spawning ground in Scotland for pop and rock groups. The Barrowland, a once disused ballroom, has to be one of the best venues in all of Britain for seeing live contemporary music. Recently the company that runs the well-known Brixton Academy opened an Academy on the city's Southside. Two bars, King Tut's Wah Wah Hut and Nice 'n' Sleazy, give Glasgow a pair of small venues with performance spaces that would rival those typical of Manhattan's East Village. Then; of course, there are the city's many pubs and bars to consider. Mistakenly considered by some as a "no-go" zone, most are friendly places where the locals are likely to strike up a conversation. A fine night out trawling the city's many drinking holes is not only entertaining, but it can prove to be an education, as well.Although hardly competition for a drama giant likes London, Glasgow's theater scene is the equal of Edinburgh's. Glasgow has one of the most active dance club scenes in Great Britain. In local parlance, "venues" are distinct from the actual "clubs" such as Optimo (electro-clash), Manga (drum and bass). The options in Glasgow are fairly well focused on Sauchiehall Street. Several Indian restaurants are open until 1am, but Spice Gardens on the southern bank of the River trumps the lot by staying open until 4am every day.
