
Fuengirola
Fuengirola is one of the most important tourist towns to the eastern Costa de Sol. The origin of the name is probably Spanish rather than Roman or Moorish having no connection whatsoever with the Roman Suel or Arabic Sohail and deriving from a type of ship that used to dock here. Fuengirola became an independent municipality in the 1953 quickly growing into the busy tourist town as it is today.
The city of Fuengirola offers the best in tourism, beautiful landscapes and everything for the tourist from the best restaurants to the top hotels and a great deal. Some of the famous places to be visited in this city is the Paseo Maritimeo-the esplanade in Fuengirola one of the longest in the country tradition and modernity meet here with the fisherman’s boat sharing the space, the Sohail Castle one of the most interesting buildings in the town following the work carried out there used for holding cultural events, the Palaacio de la Paz one of the newest building in the city recently inaugurated cultural cente in the feria grounds designed in such a way that the three storeys can be used for different cultural activities and the building is fully equipped with the latest sound and vision technology.
There are special areas designated for windsurfing, beach volley ball and other water sports. There are many complexes in the surrounding area of Mijas Costa mainly of British, Germans and Scandinavians. There is also a weekly market which moves up and down the coast each day set up in the center of the town and is the Costa del Sol’s most popular market destination. The town is full of bars, restaurants and night clubs offering very good food and drinks and night life is really really fantastic.
