Finland, stretching high into the Artic circle with thousands of sun-kissed islands in the Baltic Sea and resting at the cross roads of Eastern and Western civilization. The country is widely recognized for its world-renowned design and Helsinki is Europe’s best-designated city.
Finland Attractions
Nykytaiteenmuseo (Kiasma) : located in Helsinki, the museum displays a wealth of Finnish and foreign art from the 1960. It is praised for the boldness of its curved steel shell but condemned for its encroachment on the territory of the Mannerheim statue.
Kaivopuisto : located south of Puistok in Helsinki. The park was the site of a popular spa, which attracted people from St. Petersburg and all of Scandinavia but the popularity faded after the destruction of the spa during the Crimean war. Only one Kaivohuone remains with a bar and restaurant and just across the entrance of the spa through the park past a grand Empire-style villa built by Albert Edelfelt, built in 1839.
Senaatintori : located at the heart of neoclassical Helsinki and the three buildings flanking Senaatintori are examples of European style architecture, designed by German architecture Carl Ludvig Engel. Helsinki University or Helsingin Ylipisto the main building in Helsinki is located on the west side of the square.
Seurasaaren Ulkomeseo : the museum was founded in 1909 and displays Finnish architecture, which is located on a island northwest of city center. The collections include 17 th century rough-hewn log buildings.
SibeliUKsen Puisto : the Sibelius monument located at the lakeside park of Finland’s great composer than this soaring silver sculpture of organ pipes.
Suomen Kansallismuseo : the architect Eliel Saarinen and his associates combined the language of Finnish medieval church architecture and created the vintage example of the National Romantic Style. The museums collections of ethnological artifacts give an insight into Finland’s past.
TemppeliaUKio Kirkko : the modern Lutheran church carved into the rock outcrop below and topped with a copper dome. Ecumenical and Lutheran service in various languages are held throughout the week.
Uspenskin Katedraali : located on top of a small rocky cliff over the north Harbour in Katajanokka and it is the main cathedral of the orthodox church in Finland. The golden onion domes and redbrick edifice decorated by the 19 th century Russian artist.
