Dun-laoghaire Nightlife
Dun Laoghaire has an enjoyable collection of older pubs.
The Purty loft close to the West Pier, established in 1728, is a lovely place to come for a drink and is a great nightclub. However because of its intense popularity, reservations are recommended unless you want to wait for a table. The Eagle house is one of a number of old pubs and is the heart of Glasthule. FitzGerald’s, close to the Joyce’s tower is another of the old pubs. Smyths is an old fashioned place that still retains the charm of a bygone age.
Walters, near Peoples Park, is an old pub that is literally unfamiliar from what its appearance a few years ago. It is now a very modern and to some extent, quite a flamboyant place with a light and airy atmosphere.
The 40 Foot, overlooking the harbour, is one of the most contemporary pubs and is highly admired by a youthful crowd.
Scotts is an up market and posh drinking joint and although it used to be frequented by under-age customers before, its current clientele comes from an older age group.
Gastropub Company opened a new pub just across from the Pavilion Theatre in the centre of town, and it combines good food with a welcoming pub ambiance. They serve food until quite late at night, so it is a perfect place for some supper after seeing a performance at the theater.
