Getting to Derry

Derry can be reached by plane, by train, by car or by bus.

The City of Derry Airport is situated seven miles to the north-east of Derry, on the main A2 road which leads from Derry to Coleraine. Scheduled flights from Dublin and Glasgow are offered by British Airways and London Stansted, and from Nottingham East Midlands, Glasgow Prestwick, Bristol and Liverpool by Ryanair.

Northern Ireland Railways offer train routes from Belfast regularly during the entire day. Trains arrive in Waterside of Derry. A shuttle bus network links the train station to the other parts of the city. The journey from Belfast to Derry takes approximately two hours.

Cars can also be taken to Derry. The main road to Derry via Coleraine can be taken by the driver, or the picturesquely beautiful drive along the Antrim Coast, passing by the Giant’s Causeway. From Dublin, Derry can be reached by driving into route M2 at the border and continuing north towards Belfast, and then moving on to the main road to Coleraine and following the signposts.

Numerous bus services, such as Translink's Goldline Express No. 212, depart from Belfast to Derry at regular intervals during the whole day. From Dublin, Goldine Express No. 274 and Bus Éireann Service No. 33 can be taken to Derry. These buses run throughout the night. And from the west coast, Bus Éireann service No. 64 can be used to reach Derry. More information can be obtained from the bus service companies themselves.
