Denver houses some of the most famous historical and cultural tourist attractions, among these are the Denver Zoo housing some 4000 animals many of them endangered and a range of spacious habitats that gives the visitors the chance to see the animals in their natural environments, the US Mint opened in 1863 and is one of only two in the country where visitors can actually watch coins being produced and the Six Flags Elitch Gardens Theme Park. Some of the most famous museums are the Black American West Museum and Heritage Center documenting the history of black cowboys, the Colorado History Museum greeted with a spectacular mural at the front and interesting exhibits documenting Colorado’s history ranging from buffalo hunters, gold miner and gunslingers to wagon trains and the Firefighters Museum providing as interesting look at the history of firefighting in Denver with historic photos, news clippings and journals.
