
Daytona
Daytona is the perfect Florida town featuring a coastline of golden sandy beaches located on a barrier island on the Atlantic Ocean. The city named for its founder Matthias Day was incorporated in 1876 and the town of Daytona was the birth place of musical theater writer Robert Wright. By 1926 the towns of Daytona Beach and Seabreeze were consolidated to make the City of Daytona Beach. The world famous Daytona International Speedway complex is now the site of the International Motor Sports Hall of Fame and Daytona USA. The wide beach of the city and smooth sands were opened to drivers for many years and were also used for the high speed testing and racing of cars and motorcycles making the beach a mecca for racing enthusuast and the city is now home to the Daytona International Speedway.
The town of Daytona Beach is home to various attractions including the the Court of Flags rotating displaying of 12 flags representing the national origins of Shores residents and highlighting the cultural diversity that unifirs this country. The Daytona Beach River Cruise provides sightseeing tours on Daytona’s beautiful Halifax River with frequent sightings of dolphins and manatees. Some of the other attractions are the Daytona Parasail which is a thrilling way to view the city and the coast line from the sky and the Angell and Phelps Chocolate Factory being a part of the Daytona Beach area since 1925 with free tours.
Daytona houses some of the best museums in the city, some of these are the Halifux Historical Museum with an extensive collections of postcards and photographs depicting among other subjects like the history of auto racing in the area, the Lighthouse which is the tallest lighthouse in the whole of Florida, the Daytona Beach Museum- Klassix Auto Attraction documenting the history of racing and features some impressive vintage motorcycles and cars on display, the Museum of Art and Sciences offering visitors an indepth look at the world of art, science and history and it is the home to a range of ethnic exhibits including African, Chinese and Cuban artifacts and the Southeast Museum of Photography- Florida’s official museum of photography which houses permanent and visiting exhibitions of photographic work by local, national and international artists.
