Czech Republic Driving Tips

Czech Republic is one of the most popular destinations in Eastern Europe, the highway system allows for easy access for touring the countryside of the Czech Republic and traveling into Austria or Germany. Traffic travels on the right hand side and overtaking is on the left hand side and streetcars however should be passed on the right hand side. Cars are required to have a toll sticker to travel on the expressways, parking in the city is at automats indicated by a green stripe have a six hour maximum and those indicated with an orange stripe have a two hour maximum and is exclusively on the right side of the road with the exception of one way streets.

The speed limits in the Czech Republic are- in the city it is 37 mph to 50 kph, on open roads it is 55 mph to 90 kph and on the highways it is 81 mph to 130 kph. Policemen use radars to check the speed of the vehicle and if found anyone overspeeding they are fined on the spot. Fuel stations are located on the outskirts of the city and has very few fuel stations so it is best to refuel on the expressways outside the city, the fuel stations are usually opened 24 hours a day. Make sure to carry all the mandatory equipment in the vehicle and these include the first aid kit, reflective warning triangle and light bulbs.

The minimum age for driving in Czech Republic is 18 years and a valid home country licence is required for driving. It is advisable to carry your driving licence, insurance certificates, registration papers, and proof of ownership along with your passport while driving. Seat belt are compulsory both in the front and the rear seat and children below the age of 14 years must sit in the rear seat with their seat belt fastened. Make sure that you don’t drink and drive as it is a crime, the blood alcohol limit in Czech Republic is as low as 0.25% and random breath test is conducted. If anyone found to have intoxicated more than the prescribed limit they shall be penalised heavily.
