Cyprus Driving Tips
Mountains, sandy beaches, hills and rock coastline are all located on this island. Cyprus is recently becoming a popular winter sports destination with many mountain resorts. Driving in Cyprus is most advisable as regular transport service is not available to all remote areas where many places of interest are to be found.
Driving in the city of Cyprus is on the left with the majority of the cars being right hand drive and the traffic signs are international, headlights must be used a half and hour before sunset and a half an hour before sunrise. The speed restrictions are shown in kilometers and it is advisable to watch your speed as the police have roadside checks for overspeeding. The speed limit in the city is 30kph to 50kph and on open roads it is 62kph to 100kph.
No matter where you are driving it is imperative that you wear your seat belt and in almost all countries this is a strict law but the seat belts are there to save your life so make sure you use them. Driving in wet and windy weather should be very careful and if possible stop and wait for the weather to settle down. Driving with alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit is a crime and will be severly penalised. The prescribed limit in breath is 39 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath and the limit in blood is 90 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. Make sure to carry all the mandatory equipment that is required and more importantly your car documents and your national and internationl license while traveling.
