
Getting to Crete
Almost all scheduled flights passage through Athens where scheduled domestic flights to Chania or Heraklion, have to be taken.
There are plenty of charter flights from Europe, from april to October.
Advantage of a charter flight: direct flight with no stopover in Athens.
Journey from Athens to Crete can be continued by ferryboat from Piraeus. There is a regular ferryboat service from Piraeus to Heraklion and Chania. Ships depart around 8.00 or 8.30pm and arrive at 5.00 or 6.00 am. The ships are cheaper than flying. Weekends and beginning and ends of holidays are best avoided if crowds are to be evaded. Cabins have to be booked in advance.

Traveling to Greece overland has virtually stopped since the disintegration of former Yugoslavia.
Airport of Chania is 13 km away from the town centre. Transport to city: taxis, which cost Euro 15 (including a small airport surcharge).
Souda harbour is situated 7 km east of Chania. Transport to city: bus service.
The ports Heraklion or Rethymnon are in the city center.
