Croatia Driving Tips

The Adriatic Sea along the coast of Croatia offers many spectacular views while driving. Some of the roads outside the city are worn and damaged and require full attention while driving. Traffic in Croatia travels on the right hand side and overtaking is on the left hand side and cars entering a roundabout have the right of way. Most of the fuel stations are opened from 6 am to 8 pm and some on the expressways are opened 24 hours, make sure to keep an eye on your fuel tank as you drive in Croatis as fuel stations are few and far between the country side.

The minimum age for driving in Croatia is 18 years and international driving permit is required for driving in Croatia. There is a toll on the E59 and E70 highways that lead out to Zagreb. Parking in the city is metered parking areas and many parking lots are found in Zagreb and Dubrovnik. Seat belts are compulsory both in the front and the rear seat as some of the roads outside the city such as Zagreb and Dubrovnik are worn and damaged so it is strictly advisable to fasten your seatbelts as it is not only compulsory but there are to save your life.

The speed limit in the city is 37 mph to 60 kph, on open roads it is 62 mph to 100 kph and on the highways it is 81 mph to 130 kph. It is always necessary for you to carry your driving licence, insurance papers, registration papers and proof of ownership along with your passport. The police men are empowered to collect fines on the spot for any voilation of the traffic rules or for overspeeding. The blood alcohol limit is as low as 0.50% so it is advisable not to drink and drive. Avoid driving in the dark and in wet and windy weather as it is very very dangerous and if possible stop and wait for the weather to settle down.
