Copenhagen Attractions

Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark is one of the most enjoyable places to visit for a short break, and over the past few years has become a popular destination for people from all over Europe who want to experience a city that is at once very modern and clean, while also offering plenty of interesting history.

There are several must see attractions in Copenhagen itself, and no visit to the city is complete without seeing them. The Little Mermaid statue sits on a rock in the centre of the harbour and is a sculptural tribute to the author Hans Christian Andersen who lived in the city and wrote a number of children’s books that remain popular today.

Right in the heart of the city is Tivoli Gardens. It is one of the largest city centre amusement parks in the world, and is a great place to visit on any evening during the week. The park has a variety of rides to enjoy, and also all of the midway attractions that you could possibly want, including several casual restaurants which are good fun.

Christiania is a small enclave within Copenhagen which is home to a community of artists that was first developed in the 1960s and which has grown over time to be one of the major entertainment centres of Denmark. The area has liberal laws on alcohol consumption compared to the rest of the city, and is a popular place for nightlife during the week.

If you want to leave Copenhagen behind for a day or two, then there are plenty of places within easy reach. Malmo in Sweden lies across a gigantic bridge and causeway from Copenhagen, and the drive between the two cities is as much of an attraction as spending time in them.

About an hour outside Copenhagen in Billund, visitors to Denmark can visit the famous Lego Land which features Lego made miniatures of many famous sites, a theme park, and also the chance to see the factory where the iconic bricks are made.
