Chicago the City of Big Shoulders, a world of ethnic and religious diversity is one of the most important cities in America. Because of its strategic Chicago it became a hub for roads, canals, railways and aeroplanes. The Windy city has always prided itself on being a center for varied culture. The modern city focuses on the area known as the Loop where the raised metropolitan railway circles the central downtown business and shopping district. The city stretches north, south and west, the east side is the lake, it is one of the most culturally diverse cities both in the USA and in the World.
Attractions in the city is in plenty and is often referred to as the Queen of Lakes and forms an impressive backdrop of skyscrapers that tower above the waterfront. Chicago is full of interesting and appealing tourist attractions and historical landmarks. There are many excellent museums in the city providing interesting information on the history of Chicago and many other exhibitions. Three of the Chicago’s premier museums are located together on the Museum Campus right along Lake Michigan’s shore. Some of the famous museums are the Field Museum exploring the cultures of Ancient Egypt and Africa, the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum exhibiting what your weight is on different planets and let you play with astronomers tools, Museum of Art and Industry, the Shedd Aquarium the worlds largest aquarium boasting 6600 species of colourful and odd looking fish and the Terra Museum of American Art nestled among the upscale shops on Michigan Avenue. Some of the other museums are the Museum of Contemporary Art, Spertus Museum, Childrens Museum and the Smith Museum of Stained Glass Windows.
Some of the other attractions in the city are the large parks and gardens such as Grant Park covering over 300 acres a popular place for both the tourists and locals, the splendid Chicago Botanic Gardens one of the major tourist attractions in the city attracting around one million visitors every year, the Jackson Park a spectacular public park which opened in 1893 including a traditional Japanese garden and the Lincon Park covering more than 1200 acres of parkland and landscaped gardens providing excellent sports facilities. Sporting facilities in the city of Chicago includes numerous spectator sports, the city being home to several world class sports team the most famous being th Chicagao Bears.
Accomodation in the city is quite expensive but there are certainly a large number of hotels to choose but it is filled to capacity and weekend reservations are generally necessary several weeks in advance. Plenty of luxurious hotels are available and also budget lodging is available in some areas providing hotel accomodations.
