About Catania
Catania is the second largest city in Sicily and tenth in Italy, situated at 37° 31'N 15° 04'E on east coast of Sicily with more than 350,000 inhabitants. Catania was founded in the 8th century BC and destroyed number of times after its birth due to earthquakes and lava flows. In summer, it is very hot and temperature can exceed to 40 degrees.
Catania has the oldest university of Sicily educating more than 62,000 students and providing undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The university provides all modern courses and research facilities to its students. For musical and artistic education, there are some advance institutes affiliated with the university.
There are some very famous personalities that born in Catania and made their mark in the world. One very famous name is Vincenzo Bellini who was born in Catania. He was an excellent opera composer. In his memory, the government had built a museum, Teatro Massimo, in the year 1890 at the place of his birth.
