Budapest is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and to back this up a large part is considered to be a World Heritage site. History of Budapest

There have been inhabitants in Budapest since 1AD although it was 829 before Buda and Pest joined and by 1391 it was the Hungarian capital. In 1718 the city was destroyed and the rule of Hungary was taken away from the Ottoman Empire and included in the Hapsburg Empire. Throughout WWII a large portion of Budapest’s’ 250,000 Jews were killed mainly by the Nazis. By 1956 Hungary fought for freedom but the Soviet invaders were too strong. For the next 30 years they were controlled by them but on October 23rd 1989 the Third Hungarian Republic was formed and monuments to dictators were moved from the Budapest roads.

Travelling into Budapest is easy and there are three terminals. Most budget travels use Ferihegy 1 while others use Ferihegy 2 and Ferihegy 3. The airport is located in Pestszentlorinc which is to the East of the city centre in the VIII district.

Things to See in Budapest

Budapest has plenty of history and many of it is still standing despite the devastation caused during WWII. There is the Vajdahunyad Castle, the Citadel and many spas including the Rudas baths close to the River Danube which date back to the time of Turkish rule.
