Bonn Attractions

Rheinaue Leisure Park – located in the heart of the Federal city in the center of New Bonn, the district where most of the structural changes has taken place. The major part of the park is situated on the left bank and a small portion on the right bank of the Rhine, which is nearly as large as the city center of Bonn. The main attraction of the park is the 15-hectare Meadow Lake crossed by six Pontoon bridges.

The Japanese Garden – the Govt. of Japan engaged the president of the Japanese landscape gardener association, Dr. Akira Sato to create a Japanese garden as a present and contribution to the city’s Horticultural show in 1979. A monument of Japanese horticulture art was created and still remains unchanged with nature and harmony is the overall composition of the garden, includes two cascading waters, small lake and a thirteen stage pagoda.

Beethoven House – the pride of Bonn, Beethoven House was born in 1770 in the small house, which opens onto a little garden. Beethoven was born in a room in the second floor, which is decorated with a simple marble bust of the composer. The house includes the personal items of the composer including manuscripts and musical instruments, the last piano in the Vienna room.

House of History of the German Republic – the museum has collections of Germany’s modern history in artifacts, photographs and other displays after 1945. Emilie Schindler the widow of Oskar Schindler donated some of her husband’s documents to the museum in 2001, who was the subject of Steven Spielberg’s film Schindler’s List.

Kunstmuseum Bonn – the triangular structure is one of the major buildings along the new ‘Museum Mile’ includes important art collections along the Rhine. The main attraction is the 20 th century art the works of Rhenish expressionists, notably august Macke. The collections also include works by Schmidt-Rottluff, Kirchner, Ernst, Campen-Donk, Thuar and Seehaus.

Basilica of St. Martin – the basilica of St. Martin dominates the skyline of old town Bonn and featured on the city emblem for centuries. The basilica was constructed from the 11 th to the 13 th century at the site of two martyrs and patron saints graves of Bonn. The church has complete record of its history from a small chapel, which was built during the late Roman period to the current day. It was the first largest church in the region and next to the fountain in the courtyard of the 12 th century cloisters, peace and tranquility can be found.
