Nightlife of Bilbao
One of the finest cod tartlets, Gatz, Calle Santa María, is a unique version of a Basque-style ratatouille. The narrow alleyways of old town where you can visit during nights are dotted with all manners of bars, tascas and bodegas. You might opt for three popular discos after having two are three drinks. Disco-Pub Crystal, Calle Buenos Aires 5, and El Palladium, Calle Iparraguirre 11 are the favorites discos of Bilbao. On Friday and Saturday nights from 6:30pm to 6:30am, the bar that's jumping is Cotton Club, Calle Gregorio de la Revilla 25, named after its early ancestor in New York's Harlem. More than 30,000 beer caps form part of the decor. A DJ spins the latest tunes for the mingling throngs in their 20s and 30s. The atmosphere is less hectic when the club is open Sunday from 6:30pm to 3am and Monday and Thursday from 4:30pm to 3am. The boys of Bilbao (sounds like a film, doesn't it?) gather at High Club, Calle Naja 5, the city's most visible gay club. Mostly young males show up here, but some women appear nightly as well. The major cultural venue in Bilbao is the Teatro Arriaga, Plaza Arriaga s/n, on the banks of the Nervión River. This is the setting for world-class opera, classical music concerts, ballet, and even zarzuelas (comic operas).
