One of the biggest attractions of Bilbao includes the museum of Guggenheim, situated at the intersection of the bridge called Puente de la Salve and the Nervion River. The 104,700-sq.-m (1,126,980-sq.-ft.) colossus is the focal point of a $1.5-billion redevelopment plan for the city. The Guggenheim isn't an encyclopedic museum, such as the Met in New York City. This museum features the works of some of the most towering artists of the latter half of the 20th century -- including Picasso, Robert Motherwell, Robert Rauschenberg, Clyfford Still, Antoni Tàpies, Andy Warhol, Ives Klein, and (our personal favorite) Willem de Koonig. Museo a Euska/Museo Vasco, Devoted to Basque archaeology, ethnology, and history, this museum is in the center of the old quarter, south of Calle Esperanza Ascao, housed in a centuries-old Jesuit cloister. Some of the exhibits showcase Basque commercial life during the 16th century. Museode Bellas Artes, This is another of Spain's important art museums, containing both medieval and modern works, including paintings by Velázquez, Goya, Zurbarán, and El Greco. Among the works of non-Spanish artists are The Money Changers by the Flemish painter Quentin Massys and The Lamentation over Christ by Anthony van Dyck. In its modern wing, the museum contains works by Gauguin, Picasso, Léger, Sorolla, and Mary Cassatt.
