Biarritz is a popular coastal resort with a spectacular coastline and extensive sandy beaches dominated by the Atlantic swell. In the mid 19 th century Napoleon III and his wife Eugenie used to spend their summers at Biarritz and from then on the city has proved itself not only with royalty but also with Europe’s rich and famous.

Biarritz is famous for its great sandy beaches one of such is the La Grande Plage dotted with striped bathing tents. One of the famous attractions in the city of Biarritz is the sumptuous hotel, Hotel du Palais built to accommodate Empress Eugenie and her entourage, the Byzantine and Moorish style Eglise Ste-Eugenie built in 1864 for the Empress herself. Some of the other attractions are Caharet La Luna Negra famous for theatre, jazz, French music,Basque tales etc., Surf beach of Anglet famous for some of the best waves in Europe, and the Eglise Alexandre Newsky the Russian Orthodox Church built by the Russian aristocracy who used to visit Biarritz before the Revolution. Among the museums most famous are Musse Bonnat displaying the great collection of works by Goya, Constable, Rubens, Leonardo, Rembrandt and others, the Asiatica showing the most robust collection of Asian art in Europe, Musee Basque displaying about the Basque people and culture and the Musee de la Mer the vast aquarium providing fascinating insight into underwater life in the Bay of Biscay.
