
Bergerac
Bergerac a small port on the Dordogne famous for its wine and tobacco and an excellent base for exploring, it is still an attractive market town. Once an important port for the wine trade it still serves as a hub for maize, wine and tobacco production.
Among the attractions in the city of Bergerac the most important and the famous ones are the Grotte de Font de Gaume a cave discovered in 1901 with fine examples of prehistoric paintings, the Cadouin, the Cloitre de Recollets the 16 th century cloister which offers free wine tasting, and the Vezere Valley. Three glorious museums in the city are the National Museum displaying the prehistoric artefacts and paintings, Musee de la Batellerie et de la Tonnellerie diaplaying the history of wine making in Bergerac and the Musee du Tabac the superb of all the museums recounting the history of Bergerac’s tobacco growing industry.
