Suvarnabhumi Airport opened in 2006 as the new international airport serving Bangkok to replace the former airport which had become too small to meet the needs of the city. As with many of the new airports in the far east that opened around the same time, the purpose of Suvarnabhumi Airport was to present the modern face of the country and act as a showcase for the nation. The airport is located around 25KM east outside the city centre in the suburb of Racha Thewa. The airport has been designed to cater for more than 30 million passengers each year, and it is the home of both Thai Airways and Bangkok Airlines, as well as being a major hub for both Qantas and British Airways.

Continue along Route 7 as far as Prawet, and then turn right onto Route 9, the Bangkok Eastern Outer Ring for about 100metres, before turning left onto the airport entry road which takes you right up to the terminal building and car parks.
