
Avallon
The city of Avallon stands high on a ridge above the wooded valley of the River Cousin, the name Avallon betrays the town’s Gallic origin the ancient Aballo perched on a rocky spur above the Cousin Valley.
Among the attractions of Avallon the principal attraction is the 15C Salt Ware house and exactly opposite to it is the Romanesque Collegiate church of Saint Lazare displaying the vertiable petrified firework including the signs of Zodiac and Vine leaves. Some of the other attractions are the Law Court a remnant of the ducal castle, the Clock Tower surmounted by a belfry over the gateway. This city of Antibes houses some beautiful museums, the Avalonnais Museum containing archaeological collections of note including the handsome Roman mosaic, and the Costume Museum containing traditional clothing fashions and accessories in the splendid setting of a 17 th and the 18 th century town house. The Agriculture and Crafts Heritage Center in the 19 th century building displays the work of different craftsmen through a series of lovingly reconstructed workshops.
