Weather in Austria
The weather of Austria is influenced by three types of climate predominantly caused by the existence of the Alps.
As information from the library of Congress countries say-
Precipitation, low pressure fronts and mild air produced by the Gulf Stream are characteristics of the Atlantic Maritime Climate. The northern parts of Alps, the Alpine Foreland and the Danube Valley are mainly influenced by this type of climate. The second type is the continental climate which brings wet summers and high pressured systems during the drier winters. The eastern part of Austria is mainly subject to this climate. The Mediterranean climate is brought from the south and comes with warm air, fewer clouds. This climate is mainly seen in the southern part of Alps as well as the Southeastern Alpine Foreland. These parts however are the most comfortable parts of Austria.
A very peculiar yet significant feature of Austrian weather is the Fohn- which is initiated by the warm air masses originating in Sahara, Africa, and it raises the temperature quickly up to 10°c. such rapid change in weather impacts people with headaches, circulatory problems and irritability. During winter the fohn causes rapid melting of snowcaps, eventually leading to avalanches.
During winter Atlantic maritime weather brings the snow and the continental weather preserves it. The summers are usually sunny and warm.
