
Atlanta
Atlanta located in the northern half of Georgia known as the Piedmont its landscape is one of the undulating hills wedged between rugged mountains and a flat coastal plain. It is an enormous and sprawling city and it is constantly expanding with no major barriers to prevent it from continuing to grow indefinitely. It is known throughout the world for being a major business city. It was also a major railroad hub, manufacturing center and supply depot. Besides being the economic and cultural center of the southern United States it offers traditional charm with a modern flair.
The city of Atlanta is filled with attractions including the World of Coco-Cola celebrating the world famous soft drink with exhibits and classic memorabilia. Some of the other attractions are the Atlanta’s Georgia Aquarium the largest in the world featuring over 100,000 animals, Six Flag over Georgia an enormous park containing some of the country’s best rides, the Georgia Dome one of the biggest cable supported dome in the world hosting many of Atlanta’s major events and the Zoo Atlanta being the home to a range of zoo favorites and dedeicated to conservation. The CNN center a major building in Atlanta housing international broadcast studios of the CNN News Group is another major attraction.
Some of the other main attractions include the Georgia State Capitol a striking peace of the 19 th century architecture opened in 1869 at the coast of almost a million dollars, the Sandy Springs Historic site which is full of periodic buildings and beautiful old fashioned gardens, the Centennial Olympic Park a large plaza area in the central Atlanta containing the Fountain of Rings celebrating Atlanta’s 1996 Olympic Games, the Martin Luther King , Junior National Historic Site including the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church and the St Philip’s Cathedral which is one of the most important historic buildings dating back to the mid 19 th century.
Among the famous museums the Atlanta Historic Center which is a popular museum full of historic information about the South, the Childrens Musem of Atlanta containing a number of themed zones and interactive exhibits, Atlanta’s Margaret Mitchell House and Museum housing information about the life of popular author Margaret Mitchell, the High Museum of Art housing fine collection of modern and more traditional art and the Fernbank Museum of Natural History which is a vast museum with dinosaur skeletons and an IMAX theatre and an aquarium.
Atlanta has hundreds of places to dine ranging from pleasure palaces of haute cuisine to rustic roadside restaurants. The selected restaurants have been divided into five categories- Gastronomic, Business, Trendy, Budget and Personal Recommendations and these are listed alphabetically within these different categories which serve as guidelines rather than absolute definitions of the establishments. Nightlife in the city varies from intimate bars to live music venues and nightclubs. A small group of live music clubs and performances theatres hosts the city’s cutting edge artist and the small plaza area is a hangout for the street performers and a younger crowd.
