Annecy is a commune in the Haute-Savoie department situated in the Rhone-Alpes region in south east France. It is built on the northern tip of Lake Annecy and is just 35 kilometers south of Geneva. Annecy is, on average, about 450 meters above sea level and spans over just about 14 square kilometers of land. It has a population of around 53,000 people making it fairly densely populated with more than 3800 people per square kilometer. The metropolitan area of Annecy includes 13 municipalities.
