Shopping in Algarve
When on holiday, many travellers like to take in a day or two of shopping, especially for local goods. In the Algarve, there are many items of note when shopping. Algarve is known for ceramics and there are many small ceramics shops to purchase dishes and tiles of all shapes and colours. The most prominent locations of pottery and ceramic workshops are located in the Algarve cities of Almancil, Porches, and Loule. As the largest producing country for cork, Portugal has many shops throughout the country that sell cork products anywhere from coasters and placemats all the way to hats, clothing, handbags, and even shoes. The city of Portomao has many little shops lining the streets, and the main street area is great for buying jewellery, clothing, and trinkets for you or to purchase as souvenirs for friends and family. The city of Quarteira is very touristy. This is great for holiday-goers looking for fun local items. Many items embroidered with Portugal on them are available at the shops in town. The city shops also sell fresh fish and produce for a great taste of the local flavour. For more fish, try the small fishing village of Salema. This town is primarily known for fishing and has some of the best local seafood in the region. The city of Villamoura is well known for having designer shops and high end products. Discerning tastes should make a trip to this city for the finer items on their shopping list. Algarve is known for having a limited offering of public transport, meaning budget car hire is a great option when visiting Algarve. Car hire at the airport can be convenient for air travellers and allows for inexpensive choices to accommodate a budget holiday. Travellers looking for upscale shopping may like to use the car hire option to drive about two hours north to the Portuguese city of Lisbon. There, local designers such as Maria Gambina and Fatima Lopes have their own boutique shops.Shopping in Algarve
