Albufeira sits on the Mediterranean Sea at the southern part of Portugal and is a great holiday destination. The airport welcomes over five million travellers every year and is a major hub for Ryanair. Car hire from the airport can be an economical choice for getting around Albufeira and the entire Algarve. The airport has over ten car hire desks on-site to make renting a car quick and easy. Travellers coming from nearby towns can also hire a car for a budget-friendly visit to the city. Bus travel to Albufeira comes from Portuguese cities of Lagos, Olhao, and Faro as well as Spanish cities of Seville and Huelva. These bus trips are quite inexpensive, as a trip from Seville runs around sixteen Euros. Trains to the city run daily from Lagos and Faro and take one hour. For travel from Lisbon, there is a speed train that cuts the travel time between Albufeira and Lisbon from three to four hours down to two and a half hours. The train station is only six kilometres from the centre of the city. Travellers can even take a ferry to the city. The ferry travels to the nearby city of Vila Real de Santo Antonio from Ayamonte, Spain. There is also a more infrequent ferry from the city of Madiera that comes into Portomao.
